BELONDRADE applies the same passion and dedication in the creation of its wines as it does in the extra virgin 100% Arbequina olive oil it crafts: COQ Selección BELONDRADE.
Olive oil is an essential part of Spanish culture. Just like wine, it reflects its origin: climate conditions, soil and the hand of the people who craft it. This was the bridge between the two worlds which sparked Didier Belondrade's interest in olive oil.
In 2012, after a trip to the foothills of the Pyrenees, he met the Teixidó family, the fourth generation of oil-millers in Serós (Lleida). Passionate about his work, Francesc is in charge of caring for and cultivating the olive trees before the olives are harvested to make the olive oil in the mill.
The Arbequina variety, which comes from the town of ARBECA (Lleida), is the perfect adaptation of a variety to its terroir, just like the Verdejo grape in Rueda.
Just as BELONDRADE does with its grapes, TEIXIDÓ uses special care to harvest the olives from its olive trees from its estates planted in a continental zone. In both pruning and treatments, the quality of the olives is the prime objective, as is fulfilling the standards on integrated production.
As the oil is crafted, the temperature is controlled in order to cold-press it to ensure the perfect development of all the flavours of the Arbequina variety.
The bottles that contain this oil, called COQ SELECCIÓN BELONDRADE, are chosen for both their volume, 250 ml and 500 ml, which foster quick consumption, and for their dark colour, which preserves the oil's organoleptic properties.
COQ Selección Belondrade is an oil that is deliberately left largely unfiltered, while it is also a living product which undergoes constant changes, whose characteristics depend on the climate conditions of each vintage, just like with wine.
